Russian YouTuber Valentin Petukhov has uploaded a video on his channel "Wylsacom" claiming he has obtained a 14-inch MacBook Pro featuring the yet-to-be-announced M4 chip.

Petukhov starts the video showcasing the MacBook Pro with the M4 chip, which Apple has not officially released. He does not reveal how he acquired the device. In the video, he takes a marker to obscure the serial number on the box to keep the source confidential, then displays the back of the box, which lists 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM.

Petukhov points out that this model is not yet available on Apple’s official site, where the latest listed version is the MacBook Pro with an M3 chip and 8GB of RAM. He further reads the box’s specifications, noting that it has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU.

The box only gives away the color through a large image of the device in black. Upon unboxing, Petukhov reveals the MacBook Pro in a black shade that appears traditional from certain angles but slightly darker in others, with Apple’s logo.

Moving on to the accessories, Petukhov humorously comments that the included white USB-C cable and charger contrast with his desire for an all-black color scheme, questioning Apple’s design choices.

Petukhov then powers on the MacBook Pro, setting it up just like any previous model, and proceeds to compare it with the iPad and the M3. Running performance tests via Geekbench, the M3 MacBook Pro scores 2,974 on single-core and 20,881 on multi-core tests, while the iPad Pro scores 3,783 and 14,712, respectively.

The new M4 MacBook Pro delivers notable improvements, achieving 3,864 on single-core and 15,288 on multi-core tests. Petukhov highlights that while the M4 surpasses the M3, it’s not a drastic leap, cautioning against upgrading MacBooks annually.

He also references the M2, which scored 24,336, and the M4 with a more significant 38,153. The M3 Max chip led with 97,135, far outpacing both. For MacBook owners with the M2 chip, Petukhov suggests upgrading to the M4 for better performance and more Thunderbolt 4 ports, with three on the M4, up from two in previous models.

Concluding his video, Petukhov critiques Apple for sticking to the same design, noting that although the performance upgrade is commendable, a new design would be refreshing. He hopes for more exciting updates in the future, stating, "This update is certainly great, but it’s time to move forward."
