Apple is aiming to strengthen its presence in the smart home market with an ambitious new strategy, as reported by Bloomberg. The tech giant is currently developing a new operating system called homeOS, along with a smart display and an advanced tabletop robot.

Bloomberg notes that Apple's focus in the smart home market is built around three core components: displays, artificial intelligence, and software. Apple plans to release affordable home screens similar to iPads, designed to be placed around the house, much like its HomePod speakers.

These screens will allow users to access various features, including watching content, making FaceTime calls, and browsing the internet. AI will play a crucial role in Apple's smart home strategy, enabling the Apple Intelligence system to give users precise control over devices and apps, as well as enable advanced automation across smart home appliances.

Bloomberg reports that the new robot, expected to be priced around $1,000, will be the first product fully developed using the Apple Intelligence platform. The robot will be able to understand its surroundings and interact with users in more intelligent ways.

On the software side, Apple is working on a new operating system, homeOS, which is reportedly based on the existing tvOS used for Apple TV. The recent redesign of the Home app reflects Apple’s commitment to enhancing user experience with smart home devices.

Though Apple’s past efforts in the smart home sector have yet to yield the expected success, the company has been working on the Matter protocol to support broader connectivity with devices from other manufacturers.

With competitors like Amazon and Google not yet dominating the market, Apple has a unique opportunity to gain an edge, potentially leveraging its strong reputation and focus on user experience to stand out in the smart home industry.
