WhatsApp is currently testing new features within its status updates, allowing users to tag contacts and repost statuses. However, no official release date has been confirmed for all users yet.

In recent beta versions, WhatsApp introduced a mention feature, similar to Instagram, where users can tag their friends in status updates by using the @ symbol followed by the contact's name. Once a contact is tagged, they will receive a notification, and they'll have the option to repost the status via a repost button next to the reply box when viewing the mentioned status.

Unlike Instagram, the identity of the original status creator will remain hidden when a tagged contact reposts it, and the mentioned contact will not be visible to other viewers, preserving user privacy.

Additionally, WhatsApp will notify the tagged contact even if they've been excluded from seeing other status updates through privacy settings.

These new features are still in the testing phase, and WhatsApp has not yet announced an official launch date for all users. The platform typically tests new features for varying lengths of time before rolling them out to its over two billion users worldwide.
