Samsung has announced that some of the artificial intelligence (AI) features in its devices may become paid services by 2025.

Last week, the company unveiled its Galaxy Tab S10 series and the Galaxy S24 FE smartphone, using the occasion to reiterate plans to charge for AI-powered features. In a press statement, Samsung noted that some AI features may come with a fee by the end of 2025.

This isn’t entirely new information. Samsung hinted at this earlier in the year following the launch of the Galaxy S24 series and again in July before the release of the Galaxy Z6 foldable phones.

However, the company has not yet specified which AI features will be subject to charges next year.

In early 2023, the head of Samsung’s health division, Hon Pak, mentioned the possibility of turning the Samsung Health app into a paid service, though this has yet to materialize.

Interestingly, Samsung used the term artificial intelligence broadly without specifically referencing its Galaxy AI features. This is likely because many of the AI functionalities in Galaxy devices rely on Google technologies. If Google decides to charge for these services, Samsung may follow suit.

The Korean tech giant is looking to boost its revenue through paid services and subscriptions. It has already introduced a paid service called Secure Wi-Fi, which costs $1 per day or $2 per month.

Whether the decision lies with Samsung, Google, or both, some of the AI features currently offered for free may become paid services by the end of 2025.
