Are You Facing Touchscreen Responsiveness Issues on the iPhone 16 Pro? Here’s the Cause and Solution

iPhone 16 Pro

Many users of the new iPhone 16 Pro are experiencing problems with touchscreen responsiveness, where the phone occasionally ignores touches and shows stuttering during swipe gestures. This issue negatively impacts the user experience when scrolling, pressing buttons, or even typing. But what causes this problem, and what are the possible solutions?

Details of the iPhone 16 Pro Touchscreen Issue

Numerous iPhone 16 Pro users have reported a strange issue on forums like Reddit. They are experiencing difficulty with touchscreen responsiveness, particularly near the new Camera Control button, located on the right side under the power button. This button is a unique new addition in this series.

When the issue occurs, the screen becomes unresponsive to any touch or swipe for a brief moment, except for the home bar, leading to missed commands.

What’s the Cause?

According to a report from 9to5Mac, the touchscreen issue on the iPhone 16 Pro is caused by a software bug in iOS 18. This glitch seems to occur mainly after unlocking the phone, and it doesn’t happen on the lock screen, which rules out hardware problems.

It’s believed that the issue is related to the Accidental Touch Rejection algorithm in iOS, which seems to be overly sensitive. This heightened sensitivity leads to the phone ignoring deliberate touches, especially near the new camera button.

The report also mentioned that the ultra-thin bezels on the iPhone 16 Pro contribute to the problem. Because of the extremely narrow bezels, users may inadvertently touch the screen while holding the phone naturally, which triggers the touch rejection feature and causes the screen to stop responding.

This problem is more likely to happen when users grip the phone with their fingers on the edges, particularly when not using a protective case. Without a case, the thin edges are more prone to accidental touches, which can repeatedly activate this issue.

Reports indicate that the problem persists even with the use of phone cases, albeit to a lesser extent. The issue affects devices running iOS 18 as well as those on the beta version of iOS 18.1. With this in mind, many expect Apple to release a quick software update to resolve the issue.

Possible Solutions:

  1. Update the Operating System: It’s expected that Apple will release a software update to fix this problem soon.
  2. Use a Phone Case: A protective case may help reduce the chances of accidental touches along the edges.
  3. Change How You Hold the Phone: Users can experiment with different ways of holding the phone to reduce pressure on the edges and avoid accidental touches.

By implementing these temporary solutions, users may find some relief until Apple provides a permanent fix through a software update.
