During its annual event on Monday evening, Apple unveiled its latest products, including the new iPhone series: iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The launch also featured the 10th edition of the Apple Watch, along with new versions of Apple earbuds.

Apple introduced the Apple Watch Series 10, boasting smarter functionalities, an enhanced photo app, and a new translation app.

Apple Watch Series 10

The company revealed that the Apple Watch Series 10 is powered by the S10 chip with a quad-core neural engine, and the titanium Series 10 is 100% carbon-neutral.

The watch will come in three colors, including gold and dark gray, with matching metal straps.

One notable feature is its ability to detect sleep apnea, a condition that remains undiagnosed in 80% of sufferers.

The new Apple Watch can charge up to 80% in just 30 minutes.

Orders for the Apple Watch are available starting today, with deliveries beginning on September 20. Prices start at $399.

In addition, Apple announced the Apple Ultra 2 watch, which will also be available for pre-order today, with sales starting on September 20 at a price of $799.

Apple also unveiled the AirPods 4, which it claims to be the most comfortable earbuds yet, featuring the H2 chip.

The regular version of AirPods 4 will be priced at $129, available for pre-order today, with sales commencing on September 20.

Apple stated that 80% of adults haven't had their hearing tested in the last five years, and they are now offering a certified five-minute hearing test with the new AirPods.

iPhone 16

Apple also introduced the iPhone 16 series, featuring:

  • Aircraft-grade aluminum.
  • 85% recycled content in the packaging.
  • Two size options: 6.1-inch for the iPhone 16 and 6.7-inch for the iPhone 16 Plus.
  • Customizable action buttons.
  • A new “Camera Control” button, allowing instant camera access with a single tap and the ability to adjust various camera features with a simple swipe.

The iPhone 16 is equipped with the new A18 chip, designed to handle large generative models and featuring a neural engine that's twice as fast as before.

The new 48-megapixel camera offers four times the resolution of the iPhone 14, with an ultra-wide camera that allows for autofocus and improved low-light performance.

iOS 18 will also introduce customizable widgets and photo gallery features.

Apple said the A18 chip is built on 3-nanometer technology with four efficiency cores used in nearly all operations. The chip delivers 30% more sustained performance for gaming.

The chip is 60% faster than the CPU in the iPhone 12 and rivals high-end desktop computers, with the iPhone 16's GPU being 40% faster than that of the iPhone 15.

Artificial Intelligence

Craig Federighi, Apple's Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, discussed the company’s new AI capabilities. Many of these features were previously announced during the Apple Developer Conference in June, and the first set of features will be available with a free software update next month.

The Apple Intelligence system will be featured on the new iPhone 16 series as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Federighi highlighted that Apple Intelligence integrates language, images, movement, and personal context. He emphasized that data is never stored or shared with Apple, and independent experts can verify the privacy claims, as reported by CNBC and reviewed by Al Arabiya Business.

One feature Federighi highlighted is the new generative emoji function, allowing users to create custom emojis by typing a few words. Users can also search for specific images and videos by typing keywords.

He added that Apple Intelligence marks a new era for Siri. Users can now interact with Siri through text, ask questions verbally (even if they stumble), and extract specific details from text conversations.

Other features, like emoji creation and the new visual intelligence feature, will come later. Visual intelligence will allow users to take a photo of a dog to determine its breed.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

The new iPhone 16 features aircraft-grade aluminum and comes in two sizes: 6.1 inches for the iPhone 16 and 6.7 inches for the iPhone 16 Plus.

It also includes a brand-new Camera Control button for instant access to the camera with a single tap, along with customizable camera settings via a swipe.

The A18 chip, specifically designed for iPhone 16, supports large generative models and features a neural engine twice as fast as previous versions. The 48-megapixel camera is four times sharper than the iPhone 14.

Additionally, the ultra-wide camera offers autofocus and better performance in low-light conditions.

Apple stated that the iPhone 16's CPU is up to 60% faster than that of the iPhone 12 and competes with high-end desktop computers, while its GPU is up to 40% faster than that of the iPhone 15.

Prices for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus start at $799 and $899, respectively.

iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max

The iPhone 16 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max comes with a 6.9-inch display, larger than previous models, which were 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, respectively.

Apple stated that these new models have the thinnest bezels ever on an Apple product and described them as having the best iPhone displays ever.

The titanium material is about half the weight of stainless steel and "more scratch-resistant than other types of titanium used by competitors."

The phones will come in four colors: white, black, natural, and desert.

Apple also claimed that the new iPhone 16 Pro Max has the best battery life ever, though no additional details were provided.

The Pro models feature the A18 Pro chip with second-generation 3-nanometer transistors and a new 16-core neural engine that powers Apple Intelligence. This chip is designed for generative AI workloads, resulting in a 17% increase in total memory bandwidth.

Apple stated that the A18 Pro is faster and more efficient than the A18.

The Pro models include four studio-quality microphones with low noise, designed for audio and voice recordings, and they also capture spatial audio. Apple introduced a new Audio Mix feature, described as industry-first, using machine learning to identify and separate background elements from the user's speech.

Approximately 75% of Apple's revenue comes from iPhone devices and the services available through them.
