In an age where our smartphones have become the center of both our personal and professional lives, we all wish our phone batteries could last longer.

While we eagerly await technological advances that promise batteries with years of longevity, there are several tips and steps that iPhone users can follow to preserve their device’s battery life for as long as possible.

1. Charge Smartly

One of the key ways to prolong battery life is by using the "Optimized Battery Charging" feature in iOS. This smart feature is designed to preserve battery health by learning your daily charging habits.

When activated, the system keeps the battery charged at 80% during the night and completes the charge to 100% just before your usual wake-up time. This reduces stress on the lithium-ion battery, slowing its natural degradation over time.

To enable this feature, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.

2. Monitor Battery Drain

Wondering where your iPhone's battery charge is going throughout the day? iOS allows you to track battery usage by app, helping you identify which apps are draining your battery.

You can find this information by going to Settings > Battery. If a certain app or game is consuming an excessive amount of power, consider reducing its usage, using it only when connected to a charger, or even uninstalling it in favor of an alternative.

3. Optimize Settings

Disabling certain settings on your iPhone can significantly improve battery life. While some features are helpful, we don't always need them active. For instance, Apple suggests turning off "Background App Refresh" if battery life is a concern. You can do this by going to Settings > General.

This feature allows apps to periodically refresh in the background, pulling in data like emails or uploading media to cloud storage.

Additionally, notifications that light up your screen also drain battery. You can customize your notification preferences by going to Settings > Notifications and turning off non-essential notifications from certain apps.

4. Reduce Power Consumption

If your iPhone has an OLED screen, using Dark Mode can save a considerable amount of power. OLED displays show true black by turning off the pixels, which can save up to 30% of battery life under the right conditions.

You can enable Dark Mode by going to Settings > Display & Brightness, and selecting Dark Mode. You can even schedule specific times for Dark Mode, such as during the night, which is also easier on your eyes when using the phone in dark environments.

Additionally, you can extend battery life by enabling Low Power Mode. This mode reduces background activity, dims the screen brightness, and limits system animations to preserve battery life. You can access Low Power Mode by going to Settings > Battery.

By following these simple tips, you can keep your iPhone's battery healthy and extend its lifespan, allowing your device to stay powered longer throughout the day.
