Instagram has announced the addition of several new features to its Direct Messages (DMs), allowing users to edit photos by drawing on them or adding stickers and effects before sending them. These updates bring messaging tools closer to those already available in Stories.

With these new updates, users can now modify photos by drawing or adding stickers and effects before sharing them in direct messages. This feature mirrors the existing functionality in Instagram Stories.

Instagram Enhancements

In addition to these features, users can now create custom stickers from existing photos and use them in messages, offering a more personalized experience. This update makes the photo editing tools in DMs similar to those available in Stories.

Instagram has also introduced new chat themes, including designs that reflect the autumn season. Furthermore, users can now add a birthday cake icon when mentioning birthdays in "Notes," the short text statuses displayed at the top of the inbox in DMs.

According to Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, direct messaging has seen significant growth on the platform. This makes it natural for Instagram to focus on developing new tools and features in this area.

Role of DMs in Content Visibility

Messages also play an important role in how content is displayed on the platform. In July, Mosseri mentioned that one of the key factors Instagram considers when ranking content is how often it is shared via direct messages.

Previously, Mosseri advised content creators, saying: "Think about creating content that people will want to send to their friends or loved ones, as this will help increase your reach in the long run."
